SideFire 2.0 – LEONI’s next generation laser probe to treat BPH

LEONI has re-designed and upgraded its proven SideFire laser probe to exceed the OEMs innovative laser systems’ power requirements and varying continuous wave treatment wavelengths such as thulium. SideFire 2.0 is rated for high power medical laser applications. The new design features an ergonomic hand piece with a special contour that increases the users’ comfort and precision. LEONI anticipates to launch SideFire 2.0 in the United States in February 2021.

SideFire 2.0 – LEONI’s next generation laser probe to treat BPH

LEONI has re-designed and upgraded its proven SideFire laser probe to exceed the OEMs innovative laser systems’ power requirements and varying continuous wave treatment wavelengths such as thulium. SideFire 2.0 is rated for high power medical laser applications.

The new design features an ergonomic hand piece with a special contour that increases the users’ comfort and precision. LEONI anticipates to launch SideFire 2.0 in the United States in February 2021.

With its new SideFire 2.0 laser probes, LEONI recognized the market need for an improved high-powered fiber optic delivery device. The re-imagined probe is built for the comfort and precision of Urologists and their staff. It features a 90 degree angle capillary tip, a proprietary process to attach the capillary to the body of the device, an ergonomic aiming grip handle that rotates 365 degrees, and increased durability. The surgeon always knows where the beam energy is being applied even in treatments that could endure greater than 30 minutes and varying surgical environments. For the nursing and hospital staff, LEONI made the packaging for ease-of-use to make sure each sterile device is easily passed off by the scrub nurse into the hands of the surgeon.

A typical application for SideFire 2.0 laser probes is the therapeutic treatment of BPH. BPH is a common condition as men age. In the United States, an estimated 50 million men suffer varying degrees of BPH as they age. Enlarged prostate gland can cause uncomfortable urinary symptoms, such as blocking the flow of urine out of the bladder.

It can also cause bladder, urinary tract or kidney problems, leading to kidney stones in many cases. When recommended by a prescribing physician, lasers are used to remove prostate tissue that is constricting bladder function.

As a global supplier to the Surgical Laser OEMs, SideFire 2.0 is proof that the LEONI engineering team can design and develop the next generation of sterile laser probes for the future of laser medicine.
